How to print a folded booklet

Last updated: 5 November 2026

A booklet is a stack of sheets, printed on both sides and folded in the middle: an A4 sheet makes two A5 pages on each side, a US Letter sheet makes two half-letter pages. Church bulletins, concert programmes and school newsletters are often printed this way. Pubwork puts the pages in the right order for you.

Step by step

  1. Open your .pub file, or start from a newsletter template. Booklets work best with A5 or half-letter pages.
  2. Click Print and choose Booklet.
  3. Check the paper size (A4 or Letter) and click Print, or Save as PDF to print later.
  4. In your printer’s window, choose “Print on both sides” and “Flip on short edge”, and a scale of 100%.
  5. Stack the sheets, fold them in the middle, and staple on the fold if you like.

Booklets need pages in fours (4, 8, 12…). If your document has, say, 6 pages, 2 blank pages are added at the end for you.

If your printer can’t print on both sides

Save as PDF. Print the odd pages first, put the stack back into the printer (try one sheet first to see which way round), then print the even pages.

For a print shop

Choose “Save as PDF” in the print window with bleed and crop marks: the print shop then trims the pages exactly.
